A solution-driven approach to certification with Blackwood Building Co’s Elanora Project
Blackwood Building Co was looking for a private certifier that could provide more than just approvals, they wanted expert guidance, problem-solving capabilities, and a team that was genuinely invested in their projects. And that’s exactly what they found with Buildcert.
With a strong focus on efficiency, expertise, and proactive support, our QLD team quickly became a trusted certification partner for Blackwood Building Co.
Our ability to provide clear advice, navigate complex compliance requirements, and support builder’s long-term goals is what sets us apart.
Since partnering with us, Blackwood Building Co has worked on a variety of projects, from high-end luxury homes to multi-level residential developments.
But one project in particular, an architecturally stunning home in Elanora, QLD highlighted the true value of a solution-driven certification partner.

Tackling a complex site and compliance requirements
The Elanora project was no ordinary build. Designed as a bespoke multi-story residence with a custom pool and extensive landscaping, the home was set on a site constrained by a Council Landslide Hazard Overlay due to the topography of the site.
This meant the entire design was dependent on the outcome of an engineer’s Slope Stability Report, adding an extra layer of complexity to the design, constructability and the approval process.
In addition to these site-specific challenges, the home needed to comply with the newly adopted Livable Housing Code, a standard that ensures homes are designed and constructed for accessibility.
Striking the right balance between compliance, design intent, and budget constraints required careful planning and expert guidance.
Tim Allan, Head of Operations at Blackwood Building Co said the team are always extremely helpful in explaining new codes and assisting with alternative solutions that support both design and construction teams.
“This project in Elanora was particularly tricky, but the guidance we received allowed us to solve compliance challenges without compromising the integrity of the design.”

Proactive solutions that keep projects moving
Understanding the importance of efficiency, we completed the initial assessment within just a couple of days, giving our client a clear and detailed list of what was needed to progress the approval.
Troy Williams, QLD Certification Manager at Buildcert said that from the start the focus was on making sure Blackwood Building Co had the right information to move forward quickly.
“By identifying potential compliance challenges early, we were able to provide solutions that allowed them to keep their project on track without unexpected delays.”
Our processes and problem-solving approach meant compliance requirements were met without disrupting construction timelines.
Whether offering advice on design challenges or fast-tracking urgent approvals, our team’s responsiveness made a tangible difference.
The Buildcert difference
For Blackwood Building Co, the partnership with our team is built on more than just reliability, it’s about trust, expertise, and having a certifier that works alongside them.
The ability to manage complex compliance challenges while keeping projects on schedule has made us an invaluable partner.
“If I call Buildcert for an urgent building approval, I know Troy and the team will jump on it straight away.
